Sunday, October 27, 2024
Each year, we celebrate Reformation Sunday on the last Sunday of October: as some of the first Protestants, we remember we are called to be "the church reformed, always reforming". This year, instead of looking back 500+ years, we will complete our Season of Creation observance by looking to the present and future.
Outdoor "Wild Church"-style worship (weather permitting) begins at 10 a.m.
BBQ to follow, with potluck side dishes and desserts.
We'll share and celebrate God's abundance!
A video and Estimate of Giving materials will be available
to help those who want to plan their giving for next year.
4-part Zoom Series with PJ
"A 'god' is the term for that to which we are to look for all good and in which we are to find refuge in all need. Therefore, to have a god is nothing else than to trust and believe in that one with your whole heart. As I have often said, it is the trust and faith of the heart alone that make both God and an idol. If your faith and trust are right, then your God is the true one. Conversely, where your trust is false and wrong, there you do not have the true God. For these two belong together, faith and God.
Anything on which your heart relies and depends, I say, that is really your God."
—Martin Luther, Large Catechism, “[The First Part: The Ten Commandments],” The Book of Concord: The Confessions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church (ed. Robert Kolb and Timothy J. Wengert; trans. Charles Arand, et al.; Minneapolis: Fortress, 2000), 386.
"But the “Christian” in Christian nationalism is more about identity
than religion. It carries with it assumptions about nativism, white
supremacy, authoritarianism, patriarchy, and militarism." (christiansagainstchristiannationalism.org)
Why don't we sing more patriotic songs or fly a flag in church?!
Join Pastor Julie during this election season to learn more about Christian Nationalism and the harm it can do. We'll meet on Zoom for 4 sessions to consider how we can love our country without making an idol out of it.
Four sessions, every other Wednesday evening from 7 - 8:30, beginning on October 2nd.

Stewardship means “belonging to God" - all that we are and all that we have comes from God. We are grateful to God for it all, and responsible to God for how we use it. There is a connection between stewardship and spirituality: generous giving as a spiritual discipline helps us to grow in Christ.

A Block Party to Build Resilience & Disaster-Preparedness

Growing old happens automatically. Becoming a wise elder, a blessing to the community, is a whole different process. Join a conversation about what it takes to "grow up in every way into Christ", as scripture says. We'll share videos, maybe some books, and group reflection. This conversation will begin in April, and continue as schedule permits later in the year. Go here for the Zoom link.

What a wonderful legacy we have in Christ as people of faith! We have a treasure to share with future generations. On Sunday, June 23, join us for worship and a picnic. We will:
As the old campfire song says,
" That's how it is with God's love
Once you've experienced it
You spread God's love to ev'ryone
You want to pass it on"!
